In Ancient Times
When looking at a modern scaffold, it’s hard to imagine its origins go as far back as the Old Stone Age or Ancient Greece. With scaffolding holes found near cave paintings in France and the depiction of a temporary structure on Ancient Greek pottery, it’s clear that scaffolds have existed in some form for many thousands of years. There’s also evidence that Egyptians used wooden structures for the construction of large monuments, including the pyramids.
Today, scaffolding companies employ reliable materials for guard rails, platforms and hoists, ensuring the safest conditions possible. Our scaffolding contractors cover the Berkshire area and will be delighted to provide a tailored solution for your requirements.
In Pre-War History
Before the 1900s, branches and bamboo were often used to create scaffolding. However, with the advent of metal materials, new fixings were needed. Together, Daniel and David Palmer-Jones came up with scraffixer, which would ensure greater security for wood and metal scaffolds alike. Throughout the twentieth century, metal continued to rise in popularity.
As scaffolding erectors serving the Berkshire region, we provide high-quality structures such as independent scaffolds and temporary roofs. Our experienced scaffolders will inspect the structure to ensure its stability and can assist painters, decorators and construction firms with their needs.
In Post-War Britain
Although scaffolding contractors must now meet rigorous safety standards, this wasn’t always the case. Post-war Britain needed a great deal of construction work to repair the damage inflicted, with many workers taking on projects without harnesses, gloves or other important safety gear. Additionally, the workforce often consisted of unskilled labourers – untrained in the safe use of scaffolding. The modern world now demands more of its scaffolding companies and construction firms, enabling workers to renovate properties without fear of harm.
Scaffolders are mandated to inspect their structures before use and every seven days thereafter. Skilled in the construction of temporary roofs, birdcage scaffolds and more besides, we work to assist clients at a domestic, commercial and even industrial level.
